In honor of Canada Day, this month’s edition of our newsletter is About Canada and this special day.
It is my pleasure to inform you a little more about this day where all Canadians come together to celebrate our beautiful country.
Canada Day is a day of celebration from coast to coast where many festivities are held across the country. It is also referred to as “Canada’s birthday” as it was on July 1, 1867 that the British North America Act (today known as the Constitution Act, 1867) created Canada, and therefore Canada became a country of its own.
July 1st is a National Statutory holiday for all Canadians. If you happen to be in the Montreal area today, you will find many activities happening across the city, and especially at the heart of Montreal’s historical Old City and Old Port. Click here to view Canada Day activities in Montreal.
If you are in Canada’s Capital city, Ottawa, the major activities take place at Parliament Hill, Ottawa Major’s Hill Park, and Jacques-Cartier Park. Click here to view activities in Canada's Capital City.
This year, Canada also commemorates the 50th Anniversary of the Canadian Flag. The maple leaf has been used as a Canadian emblem since the 1700’s.
If you are not in Canada this year to celebrate this special day with us today, I encourage you to plan your visit for next summer around July 1st, so that you can experience the pride that all Canadians share when we come together to celebrate our wonderful country.
Wishing you all a Happy Canada Day!
