In these turbulent times in the world, it is reassuring to know that there are countries like Canada that stand for strong values, like fundamental rights and freedoms, respect for others and mutual assistance. I would like to take this opportunity to share with you the values that form such an integral part of Canadian society.
Rights and Freedoms for All
True to its name, the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms protects the fundamental rights and freedoms of Canadian citizens and ''takes precedence over any other law.'' Known throughout the world, the Charter is part of the Canadian Constitution and conveys many of the values demonstrated by Canada at home and abroad. Among the rights protected are: freedom of expression in all its forms, democratic rights, freedom of movement throughout the country and establishment in any Canadian province, legal rights, including fairness in judicial proceedings, equality rights that guarantee the equality of all Canadians before the law regardless of their differences, and language rights.

Cultural Mosaic
Canadians consist of Aboriginal peoples, descendants of French and English settlers, and immigrants from all over the world. With a long history of immigration, Canada values its multiculturalism, which has shaped our current Canadian population. Our ethnic and cultural mosaic spans the country, standing the test of time thanks to a strong mutual respect of each others’ cultures and traditions. In fact, it is at the center of Canada's strength and attractiveness.
